With their country under attack, Ukrainian children and youth need immediate assistance. Through its Emergency Response Fund, Global Fund for Children is supporting grassroots partner organizations – many led by young people – to provide crucial, lifesaving services and essentials to Ukrainian children and their families.

As Russia’s war on Ukraine continues, GFC’s community-based partners are providing food, clothing, fuel, shelter, and psychosocial support to children and families under attack in Ukraine and to refugees fleeing the country. GFC is sending emergency grants to grassroots partner organizations inside Ukraine, as well as to organizations in neighboring countries, like Moldova and Poland, that are supporting Ukrainian refugees.

Before the invasion began on February 24, 2022, most of our partners in Ukraine either supported orphans or children with disabilities or engaged young people in the creative arts. After the war started, they pivoted to providing acutely needed humanitarian assistance while supporting the long-term needs of Ukrainian children.

Since the start of the war in Ukraine, GFC has approved 155 emergency grants totaling more than $3.1 million to support 76 community-based organizations that are helping children and families under attack and refugees fleeing the country.

Global Fund for Children has supported community-based organizations in Ukraine, Croatia, Georgia, Hungary, Italy, Moldova, North Macedonia, Poland, Romania, and Serbia. For their safety, GFC is naming its partner organizations in Ukraine only when they have asked to be publicly identified.

Working under extremely difficult conditions, our partners are doing whatever they can to keep children and youth safe. They are repurposing and renovating structures to create shelters, long-term housing, and educational spaces. They are helping families to purchase food, water, fuel, and clothing. They are providing basic necessities to families seeking refuge in western Ukraine and beyond. They are offering emotional support to children living under incredible stress, assisting LGBTQ+ youth facing discrimination as they seek safety, and so much more. As the situation on the ground evolves, they will continue to adapt.
