The Recharging Education Civil Society in Guatemala and Honduras (RECARGA)– Phase I Report

Editor’s note: This Report is also available in Spanish.

The Recharging Education Civil Society in Guatemala and Honduras (RECARGA) Phase One Report reflects on three years of collective action to strengthen the education civil society in Guatemala and Honduras in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Launched in 2021, RECARGA mobilized $1.4 million to support grassroots organizations that ensured children’s continued access to inclusive, quality education despite systemic gaps and government retreat from responsibility. The report highlights key achievements, including reaching more than 45,000 children and youth, strengthening organizational capacity and networks, and advancing community-based, gender-transformative, and Indigenous-rooted approaches to education.

As Phase I concludes, RECARGA partners celebrate progress made while charting a shared vision for transformative, liberating education that places children, families, and communities at the center.
