We Are Close Crisis Center is a support center for women with children who have experienced domestic abuse. The center provides shelter and meets the basic needs of the women including psychological support and help to build a career, in addition to providing education for their children.
West Bowling Youth Initiative has supported young people engaging in their communities for over 30 years by helping youth volunteer; building youth leadership opportunities and programs; and setting up new youth-run initiatives. The organization engages with hard-to-reach young people, including those excluded from or struggling at school; ex-offenders and youth in the criminal justice system; and others facing a difficult transition to adulthood.
Women Against Violence and Exploitation in Society (WAVES) is a non governmental organization that exists to develop the capacity of girls in Sierra Leone, both in and out of school, to speak out against sexual and gender-based violence, advocate for sexual and reproductive rights, and become agents of change in their communities. The organization also conducts extensive community outreach and advocates for policy change to benefit girls and women.
Women First Self-Help Program Lesotho supports young women entrepreneurs to promote women’s empowerment, gender equality, and poverty reduction. The organization provides trainings in business and entrepreneurship; jewelry-making; and other skills to empower young women to become self-reliant and support their families.
Worth Valley Young Farmers Club (WVYFC) is a voluntary, youth-led organization based in the rural Worth Valley region in Bradford that empowers young people who are rurally isolated to come together and develop their own social action campaigns and land art. The organization also engages young people, including boys and young men, in youth social action opportunities that matter to them including fundraising for local causes, creating social enterprise opportunities, and championing campaigns for local produce.
Writers Space Africa is a youth-led organization in Lesotho that publishes books for youth as a way to help young writers achieve their dreams. The organization also hosts debates for young people, including students, so they can deepen their knowledge of the issues that affect them.
YOH is a locally led community group focused on supporting marginalized children and young people in and around Central and East London and parts of Essex. Using an award-winning approach, YOH engages young people that have slipped through the net of existing service provision and supports their transition to self-empowerment and positive outcomes. Its support ranges from providing essential supplies to employment access.
Yo’o offers literacy programs for Poqomchi' and Q'eqchi' Indigenous children in rural areas and encourages them to enjoy reading by providing them with access to a dynamic community library.
Yo'on Ixim (“heart of corn” in the Mayan language Tsotsil) is a nonprofit school, cooperative, and community center that offers educational and economic opportunities to migrant communities in La Loma, a barrio in Puebla. Yo'on Ixim provides culturally sensitive support, developing educational programs and materials to strengthen the memory, agency, and identity of migrant Indigenous communities.
Young Africa Intellectuals (YAL Group) is a youth-led organization that provides mental health support to young people through health information in order to increase health literacy and promote effective health communication. The organization improves the availability, access to, and acceptability of mental health services for young people and women in marginalized or neglected communities, including rural areas, informal settlements, and refugee camps.
