Healthy masculinities: India

For many communities throughout the Sundarbans and North Bengal regions of India, labor-based migration remains a daily reality. Many of the most vulnerable boys and young men take significant risks to find work, often leaving themselves exposed to exploitation and harm as they travel long distances. With support from the Oak Foundation, GFC is supporting a cohort of five grassroots groups that are working alongside boys and young men with lived experience of migration, developing context appropriate interventions that seek to both prevent harm and exploitation, while promoting rights and empowerment.

This work builds upon our Addressing Root Causes initiative (ARC)—which aims to tackle the complex and multifaceted root causes of the exploitation of children and youth in South Asia. This extension of the ARC initiative applies a fundamentally participatory approach to ensure that the voices of the boys and young men most impacted by exploitation are heard – and that they play an active role in designing and implementing interventions that are tailored to their specific circumstances and context.
