Gender justice
Masculinity has been under the microscope recently. Netflix’s Adolescence thrust the topic into the national consciousness, delving into issues created by social media, negative role models, and peer pressure on young boys. In contrast, we've also recently seen how social media can present positive models of masculinity through Jamie Laing, who ran ran 5 ultra-marathons to raise funds for Comic Relief. In a series of interviews and video clips for BBC Radio One along the way, Jamie has been open and vulnerable about how tough the challenge was both physically and mentally.
With our Sierra Leone-based partner, Center for Advocacy and Sustainable Empowerment (CASE SALONE), we are honoring the incredible legacy of CASE SALONE’s founder and executive director, Rassie Bah, who tragically passed away a year ago at the age of 40.
Education
The issue of pregnancies in school remains a major challenge in Côte d'Ivoire. In June 2024, the National Council for Human Rights (CNDH) recorded 4173 cases of pregnancies among girls in school, including 408 cases in the Tonkpi region. These alarming figures highlight the urgent need to act to protect girls' education.

In October 2024, Global Fund for Children supported adolescents and young people from our partners’ programs in Cote D’Ivoire, Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone, along with their team members, to participate in the Hearth Wellbeing Summit in Senegal run by Tostan. Among those present was GFC’s Program Officer for West Africa, Remijus N. Iweobi. Here, he reflects on his experiences.
Three members of Global Fund for Children’s Africa team recently attended the Tostan Advanced Seminar to deepen their knowledge of the community led approach (CLA). In this blog, they share their key learning and reflections from the seminar.
As part of Global Fund for Children’s strategy to foster cross-regional collaboration and learning, the Africa team invited a colleague from the Asia team to join them at the recent Tostan Advanced Seminar. The opportunity was taken by Indrani Chakraborty, Regional Co-Director, South Asia, allowing her to deepen her knowledge of the Community Led Approach, while sharing learning and exchanging best practices with her colleagues.
To bring growth and the promise of a brighter future to the Bede community – a minority group in Bangladesh living on boats – GFC’s youth-led partner Alokito Kori stepped in with education, financial, and social support, all through a community-led approach.
