Marijana Savic
NGO Atina (Serbia)
Marijana is the founder and director of Atina, an NGO dedicated to combating human trafficking and violence against women. For over 20 years, she has been a women’s and human rights activist, directly supporting and assisting victims of trafficking and gender-based violence. Marijana was recently named a 2024 Trafficking in Persons Hero by the US State Department for her tireless efforts. One of her most impactful projects is Atina’s social enterprise, the Bagel Bejgl Shop. This initiative provides a safe space for women trafficking survivors to learn new skills and gain employment alongside other survivors and at-risk women. The shop generates funds for and provides reintegration programs, teaching participants to bake and sell bagels while working towards the larger goal of ending human trafficking in the community. Marijana is on the board of directors of the Global Fund for Children.
