Healthy masculinities: United States

GFC is working in partnership with the Atlanta-based Imperative Fund to implement our youth-led Spark Fund in the US initially, with plans to expand to the UK and South Africa in 2025. The fund has an intentional focus on promoting the mental health and wellbeing of young Black boys and men. Within Atlanta, long-standing histories of racial discrimination and ongoing systemic inequities directly affect the wellbeing of Black boys and men.

The topic of mental health is an intersectional issue impacting Black youth from many aspects including but not limited to trauma, violence, isolation, incarceration, and systemic racism. This initiative is developing cohorts of youth-led research-focused organizations, providing a bridge to shift power into the hands of youth. This work seeks to create safe spaces for Black boys and young men to reflect on their mental health, and develop partnerships, both locally and worldwide, that can advocate for systemic change.
