Mauricio Táquez Durán

Mauricio coordinates the HEEL initiative on Gender Justice and Healthy Masculinities in the Americas region. His experience in activism and participation in social projects began when he was just 14 years old, and since then, he has been passionate about education, youth social and political engagement, and the defense of the rights of children in Guatemala and around the world. Mauricio has a background in working with and serving social organizations focused on human rights advocacy, sexual and reproductive rights, education with a gender equity lens, and the creation of spaces and methodologies for working with boys and young men on Healthy Masculinities and Gender Justice. Before joining GFC, Mauricio collaborated with several Guatemalan organizations such as Asociación Serniña, INCIDEJOVEN, and ECAP, among others, maintaining a strong commitment to the fight for the human rights of children, adolescents, youth, Indigenous peoples, and women in Guatemala. He is fluent in Spanish and English and has studied Legal and Social Sciences (Law). In addition, he holds certifications as a popular educator, support provider for survivors of sexual violence, community advocacy, and more.
