Guillermo Garrido (Colombia)

Change Champion

Guillermo Garrido is a lawyer from the Universidad de los Andes in Colombia. He started his working life in development and peace programs in Colombia. With a group of friends, he founded an alternative cultural center and, since 2004, has worked in programs for the protection of children, adolescents, and young people in vulnerable situations or linked to the Colombian protection system. As director of Fundación Dar Amor (FUNDAMOR), he led the first documented process of deinstitutionalization and inclusion of children, adolescents, and young people affected by HIV. He worked as Senior Technical Advisor of Lumos Foundation in Colombia and is currently the executive president of FUNDAMOR. He has the firm conviction that we have a purpose to fulfill in this life, that we have the mission of our own transformation and growth as better human beings in order to provide support to other people in need, especially children and youth. Although not religious, he believes deeply in GOD and wants to contribute to his plan, trying to be more conscious and coherent in his actions. Although we cannot change the world, we can provide a contribution of love and solidarity in order to reduce social injustice and inequity, seeking more and better opportunities for new generations.
