Supporting Early Education and Development in Honduras

Global Fund for Children supports five community-based organizations and groups providing early childhood learning and development programs in Honduras.

This initiative is a partnership between GFC and the Bainum Family Foundation.

The Supporting Early Education and Development (SEED) initiative brings together an initial cohort of five community-based organizations that utilize best practices in early childhood development, including child-centered approaches, play-based learning, multigenerational programming, and program designs that integrate health and nutrition.

The goal of this pilot initiative is to improve development and learning outcomes for low-income Honduran children ages 8 and under. The SEED initiative supports community-based organizations in strengthening their programs for infants and young children and in creating an environment that nurtures and engages children, families, and communities.

Strong partnerships power our work

The most valuable thing [about SEED] is that we are not alone. We are now part of a network that works with children and looks out for their needs, and our needs as an organization are supported by other partners.

Esperanza, CNNEE, Honduras

It is encouraging to know that we have taken the first steps to create environments worthy of the children’s trust. The most painful aspect of this exercise has been to identify how many of the children face situations of family violence in which they are forced to work in order to contribute financially to their homes, … or are subjected to physical punishment, or psychological abuse, and which no one talks about.

Yennifer Gonzalez, Director, Educación Diaria, Honduras

GFC believes that the power of these organizations to make change lies not only in their individual strengths but also in the creativity and collaboration that they can spark together.

Elena Figueroa, Program Officer, Global Fund for Children
