Global Fund for Children Books has produced more than 30 award-winning titles for children from birth to age 12. Each book has been beautifully curated to expose children to diverse cultures around the world and in their own communities.
Global Fund for Children Books all started with our Founder, Maya Ajmera. Maya harbored a deep desire to foster global citizenship in children from a very young age using the power of children’s books and other media. In 1994 – just one year after the organization was founded – GFC published its very first book, Children from Australia to Zimbabwe, co-authored by Maya. The proceeds from this book supported the train platform school in India that inspired Maya to create GFC.
Since then, Global Fund for Children Books has published more than 30 books, including award-winning titles like Global Babies, Back to School, and Come Out and Play, selling millions of copies worldwide. Each of these books features beautifully colourful, positive images of children and provides young readers with a window into different countries and cultures – from Ghana to Greece to Guatemala.
The books foster global citizenship in kids, helping them to recognize the experiences – like feeling excited on the first day of school – that they share with children across the globe and teaches children to respect differences as well as appreciate the values and ties that bind us together as human beings.

“These books have played an important role in GFC’s work,” said Maya Ajmera, GFC’s Founder and the current President and CEO of Society for Science and Publisher of Science News. “When I founded the organization 30 years ago, proceeds from the first book I co-wrote, Children from Australia to Zimbabwe, supported GFC’s first grants to grassroots groups.”
Today, these books continue to support GFC’s work in partnering with community-based organizations around the world to help children and youth reach their full potential and advance their rights.
Celebrating belonging and inclusion is the power of Global Fund for Children books. I am so proud that there are millions of readers of all ages who have embraced Global Fund for Children books.
