Anuradha was forced into domestic labour herself at just six years old. That experience shaped her life’s work: fighting to end child exploitation, so no other child has to live through what she did.
As a young woman, she founded Avani, an organisation supporting children and young people at risk of trafficking and exploitation in Mumbai, India – running a home for rescued child labourers and orphans, and educating boys on gender equity.
Anuradha’s message of hope for you:
After working on child labour issues for more than 30 years, I have seen many changes. Society has become more aware of the issue of child labour. Rates of child labour have gone down by 85 percent, and children are enrolling in schools. The system and society are taking steps toward child labour eradication; therefore, I feel hopeful.
