Indrani Chakraborty

Regional Co-Director, Asia

As Regional Co-Director, Indrani Chakraborty provides support to Global Fund for Children’s partners in South Asia, working to guide and strengthen their programmatic expertise and networks. Indrani has over 21 years of experience working in grassroots, statewide, national, and international organizations on child rights, child protection, trafficking, unsafe migration, gender-based violence, education, HIV- and AIDS-related issues, women’s and girls’ rights, and rights-based microfinance. Prior to joining GFC, Indrani worked as a Program Consultant for the West Bengal Commission for Protection of Child Rights in Kolkata, where she was involved in the monitoring of childcare institutions, schools, and correctional homes to measure their standards according to the law. She also actively participated in the organizing of public awareness campaigns on child protection and policy advocacy, and in creating child-friendly spaces at local events. Indrani started her career as a Researcher at Sanlaap India, a nongovernmental organization that focuses on preventing and responding to the trafficking of women and children for commercial sexual exploitation, sexual abuse, and forced prostitution. She has published research on unsafe migration and cross-border trafficking, sex tourism, caste-based prostitution, the conviction of traffickers, and the livelihoods of trafficking survivors. Indrani holds a master’s degree in social work from Visva-Bharati University in Santiniketan, India. She speaks English and Bengali.
