‘Love Sonia’ Highlights Anti-Trafficking Work in India

Exclusive Film Event at JW Marriott New Delhi Aerocity

With generous support and sponsorship from JW Marriott, an exclusive showing and after-film reception of the film Love Sonia will take place at JW Marriott Aerocity on Thursday, December 6, at 6:30 PM in The Gallery Room.

The event will highlight the prevalence and brutality of sex trafficking while providing a platform for Foundation for Rebuilding Childhood (FRC), its knowledge partner Global Fund for Children (GFC), and key India-based grassroots initiatives to share their work, as agents of change, to counter trafficking in India.

“It is only by supporting the vital work of organizations such as Foundation for Rebuilding Childhood and its associated partners that we too can become agents of change, helping to give hope to children and young people and build more resilient communities,” said Sandeep Gupta, Managing Director of JW Marriott New Delhi and an FRC Trustee. “I am proud to attend the viewing of Love Sonia as a Board member of FRC.”

Inspired by real life events, Love Sonia tells the harrowing story of a young girl’s journey that begins in a drought-prone Indian village where she and her family grapple with poverty and desperation. The tale unfolds in Mumbai’s dark underbelly where Sonia, played by newcomer Mrunal Thaker, has become entrapped in the horrific world of sex trade and prostitution. The events portrayed in this bold new film, directed by Tabrez Noorani and produced by David Womark, forces the viewers to rethink where our society is heading. Trafficking is seen through an economic perspective of demand and supply; women and girls are the central commodity in this burgeoning market that makes huge profits trading innocent lives.

“My team and I feel honored to have the opportunity to be part of this initiative. We need more efforts like this which helps to rebuild the most important phase of one’s life – childhood,” said Nitesh Gandhi, General Manager of JW Marriott New Delhi Aerocity. “Thank you so much Ms. Nicky Wynne and Global Fund for Children for making us a part of this noble cause.”
