Eugenia Vigil Escalera Sánchez

Eugenia Vigil is part of the Americas team at Global Fund for Children, where she coordinates the U múukil xchu’upalo’ob (UMX) initiative also known as the Strength of Girls initiative in Yucatán Peninsula.

She has supported other GFC initiatives such as the Girls Experiencing Migration (GEM) initiative and the Promoting Youth Leadership for Gender Justice initiative, also known as HEEL. She is a popular educator and has more than 10 years of experience accompanying diverse grassroots in topics related to gender and climate justice. She has worked in community processes related to food sovereignty and solidarity economy with Indigenous and rural communities in Chiapas, Mexico. Eugenia has experience in caring for land and seeds, environmental and gender justice education, agroecology, community forest restoration, and ecotechnologies. She has also worked with children in Indigenous, rural, and peri-urban communities in Mexico in Puebla and Chiapas.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in environmental sciences and sustainable development and a masters degree of research in communication and social change. She is fluent in Spanish and English.
