Discussion series: strengthening nonfinancial support during the COVID-19 pandemic

The Africa Grantmakers’ Affinity Group (AGAG) and Global Fund for Children (GFC) will co-host a six-week virtual discussion series, Strengthening Support Beyond the Check: Navigating the Impact of COVID-19.

As a network, Africa Grantmakers’ Affinity Group (AGAG) has worked to build and strengthen professional relationships between funders based inside and outside of Africa. During these unprecedented times of social distancing and self-imposed isolation, having a sense of connection to a community of peers is more important than ever.

The new series is an expansion of last year’s discussion, Support Beyond the Check, which explored the varying ways funders are supporting organizations beyond a traditional grantmaking model.

With an informal and interactive format, the series is designed to encourage funders to share information about how they are navigating the COVID-19 pandemic – its impact on their own organizations, as well as on supporting their grantees.

Topics to spark the conversation include:

  • What are funders hearing from their grantee partners about the support they need?
  • How are funders positioning themselves to respond to the shifting environment?
  • How can funders be supportive of each other in navigating the impact of COVID-19 on their grantmaking approach and strategy?
  • How can we manage the dynamics of working virtually?

Note, this series is open to funders only to encourage an open and fruitful discussion among peers. For more information about the series contact Corey Oser at coser@globalfundforchildren.org, Alexander Kyerematen at akyerematen@globalfundforchildren.org, or Cheryl Lane at clane@agag.org.
