We Stand with Children
As soon as the funding cuts by the US government were announced, GFC immediately reached out to our partners to learn how they were impacted and heard similar stories in every region where we work. We found that partners are halting programs and are urgently looking for alternative funding sources to avoid running out of money to pay staff, rent, and provide services for the children and young people they serve.
Within days of the funding freeze, we began processing emergency grants. To date we have approved 24 grants for a total of $300,000.
But this is just the beginning. Our partners all around the world are responding to funding cuts, trying desperately to save their programs and work that help improve the lives of children and afford them the care and assistance they need. Partners are requesting emergency grants to fill immediate funding gaps and avoid disruptions to programs.
Our goal is to raise $1,000,000 to meet the needs of the emergency requests y to support our community-led partners and their critical programs for children and young people. And your help will make all the difference.
We know that our partners have faced uncertainty before and that they will persevere through this latest round of disruption. We will do everything we can to act in solidarity and meet these requests, standing in support of children as we have over the last 30 years.
Will you join us and stand with children?
Here are just a few of the examples of the impact of the funding freeze on our partners:
- In Ukraine, our partners providing essential humanitarian aid for refugees and persons with disabilities in Ukraine are navigating the realities of war – ongoing displacement, trauma, and escalating needs – without critical funding.
- In Latin America, partners providing education and reintegration programs for migrant children and offering critical legal and psychological services for girls and women who are survivors of gender-based-violence have been forced to suspend their work.
- In Africa, education programs are collapsing as our partners have had to halt literacy programs and curb the provision of resources including menstrual health and hygiene resources that help girls stay in school.
We are now distributing grants to sustain these vital programs in Ukraine targeting internally displaced people, persons with disabilities and survivors of gender-based violence. We are disbursing funds to help continue programs to support migrant children, gender justice, and early childhood in Guatemala and Honduras. We are offering support to sustain educational and gender justice programs for young people in Zambia and Zimbabwe.
We need your support to continue this vital emergency work.
