India Partnerships Catalyst
Deya Bhattacharya is Global Fund for Children’s India Partnerships Catalyst and builds relationships with GFC’s partners in India through the implementation of grantmaking, learning, and capacity development strategies. Deya is a human rights lawyer, researcher, and practitioner whose work is grounded in queer-feminist and participatory methods. They have worked with women, trans, and non-binary constituencies for over nine years. Before joining GFC, Deya worked with Women’s Fund Asia, Kaleidoscope Trust, The Hindu Centre for Politics and Public Policy, and Women Win on various aspects of research, program and policy development, and grants management. In 2014, Deya incubated a program to research and advocate for the rights of women in Kashmir by tracing the trajectory of how enforced disappearance affects the lives of women who survived their disappeared husbands. During their professional journey so far, Deya has witnessed the connection between money and movements, and how this connection can determine how civil spaces shrink and expand for certain communities, especially women, children, and LGBTQ+ youth. Deya hopes to facilitate solutions that are self-led, participatory, and rights-based for these communities. Deya is fluent in English, Bengali, and Hindi and is learning French and Mandarin.
