Sonya Friel
Program Development Intern
Sonya Friel supports Global Fund for Children’s programs team. She is currently working with GFC staff to develop GFC’s Asia regional strategy and on influencing and advocating for GFC via networking and collaboration. Sonya is a rising junior at Bryn Mawr College, majoring in anthropology and neuroscience. She is interested in the neural correlates of social networks and believes in the value of the developing minds of young people. Prior to joining GFC, Sonya volunteered with the International Citizen Service and their partner organization, Raleigh International, on a three-month livelihoods project in Nepal, working with young entrepreneurs and groups experiencing vulnerability. Sonya is a proficient Spanish speaker and is currently living and working in Spain as she completes her classes online. From Ireland, she is also at intermediate level in Irish Gaelic.
