When you make your gift today, you become a part of the story of Global Fund for Children: a global network of changemakers who are creating a brighter, safer future for all children and young people.
In times of crisis, we are committed to supporting our partners around the world as they respond in their communities. From natural disasters to conflict or health emergencies, our local partners are well-positioned to address emerging challenges. GFC provides emergency grants, technical support, and wellbeing solidarity to our partners as they navigate emergencies impacting their organizations and their communities.
Emergencies bring big challenges, but they also reveal the strength of young people and their communities. Whether it’s through getting food and shelter to displaced families, transforming community spaces into safe havens, or offering emotional support, our partners are there for the children, families, and communities that need them to survive, and recover. GFC provides emergency grants, technical support, and well-being guidance to our partners as they navigate emergencies, often having to pivot in their work and mission to meet emergent community needs.
GFC is not primarily a crisis response organization, but when our partners find themselves in the midst of an emergency, we stand with them. The world is recognizing that community-based partners are critical to the success of any emergency response, and our partners, deeply rooted in their communities, are well-positioned to provide aid in the short-term and will be there for the long-term too. Our goal is to support our partners – firstly by listening, then by moving swiftly and decisively.
Recent examples of this include our response to the global COVID-19 emergency. We provided more than $3 million in funds to help partners across the globe keep their communities safe and to ensure the sustainability of our partners who faced dramatic reductions in support during the initial phases of the pandemic. In many cases, GFC was the first donor to support these critical community leaders and one of the only to provide financial support that was fully flexible. We have also provided emergency funding to a cohort of 75+ partners in Ukraine in response to the Russian invasion in 2022. As the war drags on, we are continuing to help our partners deliver long-term support in their communities with an emphasis on young people whose education has been disrupted and children and youth who have been disproportionally impacted by the war, such as those living with disabilities and LGBTQ+ youth.

To ensure education in Ukraine, provide flexible funding to grassroots groups
GFC’s Ashani Ratnayake’s writes about the continued difficulties of children in Ukraine accessing educational spaces and how providing flexible funding to community-based organizations can help ensure that children continue learning.
[When the COVID-19 pandemic struck] we thought of who would understand us and respond quickly: Global Fund for Children immediately came to mind. I think we had the additional funds within two to three days.
