GFC receives $250,000 grant from the Center for Disaster Philanthropy to support young people during COVID-19

Global Fund for Children announces today a $250,000 grant from the Center for Disaster Philanthropy, which will support local organizations working with children and youth in vulnerable communities during the COVID-19 pandemic.

This new grant will provide emergency funds to 15 to 20 community-based organizations over the next six months. It will supply GFC’s local partners with immediate, unrestricted resources to meet both urgent and ongoing needs of young people and community members affected by the coronavirus. In addition to providing flexible funding, the grant will help strengthen organizations’ capacity and safeguarding practices to respond to this and future disasters.

With this work, GFC aims to alleviate the immediate and long-term impacts of the COVID-19 crisis for children living in vulnerable contexts around the globe.

These emergency funds will prioritize partners working in communities where access to medical care is insufficient and physical distancing is difficult to implement. Partner organizations that work directly with children from marginalized communities or children in shelters or transitional homes will also receive greater consideration.

Center for Disaster Philanthropy’s funding is a critical addition to GFC’s COVID-19 response and recovery efforts. Since March, GFC has approved more than $400,000 in emergency grants for 123 partners through its Emergency Response Fund.

The Center for Disaster Philanthropy leverages the power of philanthropy to mobilize a full range of resources that strengthen the ability of communities to withstand disasters and recover equitably when they occur. It manages domestic and international disaster funds on behalf of corporations, foundations, and individuals through targeted, holistic, and localized grantmaking. CDP has disbursed almost $15 million to more than 100 organizations in the US and abroad through its various funds.
