Petronila grew up working in Guatemala City’s largest public market, until Asociación Puerta de Esperanza gave her the chance to return to her education. She’s since become a mentor to other children and young people facing the same barriers she once did.
Puerta de Esperanza provides alternative education and literacy programs to children and youth in and around the market, including home visits for those who can’t make it to class. Today, Petronila works on the organization’s street outreach team, helping other young people believe in their own potential.
Petronila’s message of hope for you:
Every small act of generosity makes a difference. It tells a child or young person, 'Yes, you can achieve your dreams.' With the support of Puerta de Esperanza, our community, and so many sponsors from Honduras and around the world, a child's future can be completely transformed. Sometimes what seems like a small gesture ends up changing someone's life forever. I am living proof of that.
