Nepal Floods Emergency Appeal

Global Fund for Children’s local Nepalese partners are already taking action for families, children and communities whose lives have been devastated by the flash floods on 26 August 2026. GFC is standing with them - will you stand with them too?

Help raise $100,000 to support local partners already responding to the floods

Communities in Nepal are living the aftermath of severe flooding.

When flash flooding swept through Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading and surrounding districts in Nepal, destroying homes, damaging schools, and displacing families, over 1300 people lost their lives and more than 5000 are still missing.

The international headlines may have moved on. Our partners haven’t. They’re still on the ground, responding to urgent needs, and supporting families, children and communities grieve for what has been lost and attempt to restart what’s left of their lives.

For children, the emergency does not end when the floodwater goes down. Some are returning to school after losing their homes, their belongings, or even their parents and other loved ones. They are carrying fear, grief and uncertainty with them, while being expected to return to learning and everyday life. This is why support is needed now—not only to replace school materials or restore basic facilities, but to give children a safe environment, a sense of routine and the space to begin recovering from what they have experienced. If we do not respond at this stage, the consequences of the disaster can continue long after the water has receded.

Bishnu H. Bhatta, Executive Director, Partnership for Sustainable Development (PSD) Nepal

Our local partners didn’t wait for the water to recede before they started responding and neither did GFC.

Global Fund for Children is raising $100,000 to support six trusted local organizations already responding where the floods hit hardest.

GFC is not an emergency response organization. But we’re here when our partners need us.

“GFC is our first call in an emergency,” we’ve heard this from more than one partner since the floods hit. They can turn to us because we’ve spent years building long-term relationships and trust, listening, and showing up, whatever the circumstances.

Some of our partners in Nepal, we’ve supported for years. When the floods hit, we didn’t have to seek new partners or figure out who to fund. We already knew. Your donation lets us move flexible funding fast, based on what our partners say their communities need.

GFC has been walking alongside us for a long time, so when this crisis happened, there was already trust on both sides. They understand our work and the communities we are part of. That made it much easier to respond quickly. We could focus our energy on listening to families and responding to what they were actually asking for.

Binod Neupane, Executive Director, United Community Nepal

Our partners know their communities best — which children and families have been affected, what support is needed, and how to reach people quickly. We listen, then provide the resources and flexibility they need to act:

  • Trusting local expertise: our partners lead the response based on what children, families and communities tell them they need most urgently. And GFC listens to our partners.
  • Moving resources quickly: GFC provides flexible funding without red tape or lengthy approval processes – we move your donations fast and directly into the hands of those taking action – no delay, just action.
  • Supporting recovery, not just relief:As well as food, hygiene supplies, warm clothing and mother and baby packs, our partners are helping children return to learning and providing psychosocial support to support grieving and trauma recovery for communities.
  • Staying for the long term: when the headlines move on, GFC stays. Our relationships remain.

This is what it means to fund differently: trusting local organizations and standing alongside them for the long term.

Our support to six trusted local organizations – what they have told us they need right now, to act.

Together, these six organizations — three current GFC partners and three past partners — are responding across the affected districts, with support ranging from emergency supplies and shelter to psychosocial care, education recovery and long-term community resilience. Read on to find out more.

The emergency may fade from the headlines, but the impact will last much longer. Your donation lets GFC keep trusted local organizations resourced — responding now, and standing with children and families as their communities recover and rebuild.

Needs can change very quickly after a disaster. Local organizations are closest to the communities and can identify what is needed as the situation develops. Flexible and rapid funding allows them to listen to communities, assess their needs and respond where support is most urgently required, rather than following a fixed plan.

Punam Khadgi, Co-Founder, Peace for People

During times like this, the relationships we have built with our partners matter more than ever. The trust we have developed over time allows them to speak openly about what they are seeing, what communities are experiencing and where the real needs lie. For GFC, it means standing alongside our partners, trusting their leadership and supporting them as the situation continues to evolve. For me, it is about being present, listening with humility and navigating uncertainty together. During this phase, solidarity, trust and genuine partnership becomes not only important but essential to ensure that the communities receive the support they need.

Shristi Joshi, Nepal Program Officer, GFC

Working with the affected communities during this response has reminded us that children experience a disaster in ways that are not always immediately visible. Beyond food and shelter, we are hearing from schools and communities about the challenges children are facing in returning to learning, regaining a sense of routine and having safe spaces to process what they have experienced.

Ahshia Sherchan, Program Manager, Childreach Nepal
