Global Fund for Children Launches Campaign to Amplify Youth Voices Worldwide

March 1, 2018 – Washington – Global Fund for Children announced today its Voice of Youth campaign, a yearlong initiative that highlights the challenges young people face and affirms their right to influence the programs and policies that impact their lives.

Through initiatives in the UK, US, India, and Hong Kong, the campaign aims to raise £1 million ($1.4 million) to support innovative grassroots organizations that strengthen children and youth who are facing poverty and injustice and who lack access to the resources to help them reach their full potential.

“We believe the only way to create a more just society is in partnership with young people—they have the right to be heard, to shape their own futures, and to lead lives of dignity and opportunity,” said Nicky Wynne, Managing Director of Global Fund for Children UK Trust. “This campaign calls on our global community to listen to young people, to become aware of the challenges they face in today’s society, and to take a stand to support life-changing programs that affirm their right to live to their full potential.”

“Global Fund for Children is committed to being led by the voices of the youth we serve. Through this campaign, we will highlight how listening to the voices of those we and our grassroots partners intend to help informs our work and guides our strategy,” said John Hecklinger, President and CEO of Global Fund for Children.

Campaign events include an exclusive celebration on April 24, 2018, at London’s Saatchi Gallery, where guests will enter a universe of enticing visuals, steampunk entertainment, international street dancing, and music from global star DJ Plaid. The event is designed to inspire a select audience of influencers to each commit to raising £10,000 or more for GFC.

On April 26, Global Fund for Children and GlobalGiving will convene a panel of youth in London, joined by experts working directly with young people, to discuss the challenges youth face on a global scale and to identify potential strategies to directly engage youth in shaping their futures. This is the first in a series of panels that will take place around the world.

Global Fund for Children has also committed to creating its first Youth Leadership Council to help shape GFC’s work to improve the lives of children and youth worldwide. GFC is partnering with GlobalGiving to raise £10,000 ($14,000) to establish the panel and fund its inaugural activities.
